"Italian" food

When one thinks of "Italian" foods or spice palates, their mouth's might start to water at the thought of a delicious plate of spaghetti and meatballs or a mouth watering pizza.  What probably does not come to mind is Avocados and Mayonnaise   I will give the Chileans the tomato, but considering Chileans add some raw tomatoes to every plate, again it does not bring thoughts of Italy to mind.

I know, I know, The Chileans that have thought about this for a second will tell you that it is called "Italiano" because of the colors of the three food items and how it represents the Italian flag.

It should really be called the "Chileano" because I believe Chileans are the only national group in the world who believe that this trio will make anything better. I will admit that it does really improve the cold hotdog on the oversized bun that is the "completo italiano", but Chileans will add it to anything and deem it "better".

McPollo Italiano- McDonalds, a gringo mecca?  (blech, that's what they think anyway!) but -newsflash- we do not have an Italian McChicken.  Sorry.
Dont even get me started on the number of "Italian" items at KFC.

Rat Tails

Aw. Man.  Do Chileans seem to love rat tails.  I have seen many types.  Braids, Dreadlocked, with beads, multiple rat tails.  Some off are off center.  I have not fully figured out why this is a lasting fad.  I can only imagine that it started with the notoriously bad hair dressers who just happened to miss a spot.  Probably because something good came on on Calle 7.  This hairdresser missed some locks on what happened to be the most popular kids head in school and an awful fad was born.  This also hinges on the Chilean way of being ever so good at pulling off "frumpy Chic".

I have had several friends swear that if they find themselves in bed with a man with a rat tail (first they need to check their life decisions) then they will sneak around until they find the scissors and cut it off.  I personally would like someone to start snipping them off while on the subway and make a lovely exhibit for the M100.

I cant believe there isnt one of these!

Shortly after coming back to live in Chile I found myself looking for a "stuff Chileans like" blog.  I found a few halfhearted tries and I knew something must be done.  This blog is meant as a colorful look in to Chilean culture and not meant to offend or scandalize.  If you find yourself offended or scandalized, please go here instead.
